With exactly 2 days to go the Raingod Review looks at the complicated qualification scenarios in Round One.
With 19 games to play:
Group A
All done bar the shouting - Greece win the group with Colombia runners up. (Still to play each other again but will not change this)
Scotland in third and currently best third place team with 7 points.
Argentina unfortunately out.
Group B
Switzerland have won the group with 2 games to play, Mexico in second on goal difference over Cameroon, but Spain in 4th could still finish second.
Group C
Chile lead with Ecuador second but Sweden could still pip them if they win their last 3 games and Germany could in theory win the group if they win all 4 remaining games despite being in 4th.
Group D
Netherlands in the driving seat and through with France in second, but Portugal have 12 points left to play for so can still win the group and Brazil could still just about finish second or pip Russia to a 3rd place spot. Strangely France are almost certainly through as they will definitely finish at least 3rd and with 7 points and a +6 goal difference which is better than Scotland and Russia, the 2 current completed 3rd place teams and it would take an unbelievable set of results for Group F to produce a 3rd place team with a better goal difference and 7 or more points. (Damn it...lol)
Group E
Italy are actually through as Belgium and USA have to play each other and they can't both catch them. USA could win the group though if they win all 3 games. Ivory Coast are out.
Group F
So close and only Russia can't qualify as winners or runners up. Their fate rests on other results. Uruguay currently a large overbite ahead with a game in hand over South Korea, but England have more games to play.
